> Application

Our goal for The Music Teaching Project is to begin offering lessons in the spring semester of 2008 at two partner organization sites:

  • Westminster Presbyterian Church (SW), and
  • 87 Florida Gallery (NW).

Our students are provided with the instrument of their choice (which they can take home for practice) and with instructions on instrument care, plus sheet music and other incidentals.  Lessons are 90- minute long once a week for each semester (14 weeks). No class will have more than five students to ensure that each gets a solid amount of individual attention. The only requirement for a student to participate is a sincere desire to learn – and a willingness to practice!

Students and their parents/guardians will be required to sign a contract promising to practice for at least a half an hour five times a week between lessons, and to maintain their instruments in good condition.

The lessons are free! However, a nominal fee of a few dollars per semester will be charged according to a family’s ability to pay.

If you think your child or the child of someone you know would be interested in becoming a student and you live near one of our partner sites, call Michael Bowie at (202) 558-9171.

Visit us again before our first semester begins next spring to learn more.
